They really know how to choose a place to live
Chan Da Ya is a geological phenomenon located in the Guizhou province of China, it literally translates as « the egg-laying cliff ». They really know how to choose a place to live is a video installation created for the specific architecture and atmosphere of the Atelier Arthur Rogiers, it reveals footage from this mystical place and the neighboring village, both in a state of transition. The film is narrated by Wang Shenming, remembering her journey to the mountain.

As an appetizer to the exhibition please feel free to listen to the audio work The mountain that laid eggs with the voice of Melissa Mabesoone.

Anaïs Chabeur is an artist based in Brussels, she graduated from La Cambre (Brussels) in 2016 and HISK (Ghent) in 2018. Through films, objects and voices her practice seizes liminal situations touching upon finitude and the coexistence of material and subtle worlds. She creates stripped forms that contrast with the great vulnerability emanating from the subjects at hand. The visitors are often invited to manipulate her pieces and feel time through strong sensorial experiences. In her installations, sharp objects rub shoulders with a visceral and memorial language.

Recent exhibitions include Though all the room be motionless, solo show at V2Vingt (Brussels), What my body knew and forgot to tell me, Kunstenhuis (Harelbeke), Risquons-Tout, Wiels (Brussels), A computer does not hesitate, solo show at Botanique (Brussels). She was a finalist for the Coming People Prize at SMAK (Ghent) in 2018 and for the Prix Médiatine (Brussels) in 2022. Her work ‘The Caretakers’ is part of the Collection of the Flemish Community. http://www.anaischabeur.com/
