Trois vies is a work from 2013. In this recent past period, the "tutorial make up" videos were new and numerous on the web. In this sort of video we look at a young woman who look at herself putting make-up. In some metaphorical way we could say that she is putting painting on her face, she is then "painted". It's why I project a soundless video excerpt on an abstract painting. At certain moments and places the painting and the video projection converge into a bright and halo that embodies the brightness of the artificial beauty. These are inflamed manifestations of life as enacted through these beauty rituals.

The title Trois vies is taken from Gertrude Stein's book Three Lives. On the back cover of the French 1954 edition by Gallimard, it is written: The heroines are never judged, all three died from a mysterious disease: that of not being really alive.

Sandrine Morgante is a Belgian Italian artist who studied Master en Arts Visuels et de l’espace, ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels 2004-2009. Currently she is a resident at the HISK in Ghent. She was born in Liège and lives and works in Brussels.
